The Journey Continues

How to hear Him tell you who you are

So how do you actually hear God tell you who you are?

That's the honest question. And it deserves an honest answer.

I'm not going to give you a formula. Because there isn't one. What I can give you is what worked for me — and what I've watched work for others.

It took time. More than I wanted. And it came together in pieces, not all at once. But looking back, I can trace the path clearly. And I think you can walk it too.

01

Start by learning to hear Him.

This sounds obvious until you realize most of us were never taught how. We know how to pray — how to talk to God. We're much less practiced at the other half of the conversation. Hearing God is a skill. It can be learned. It grows with practice. And it's the foundation everything else is built on — because if you can't hear Him, you can't receive what He's saying about you. practicalhearinggod.live

02

Sit with Him and ask.

Not once. Repeatedly. Over time. I spent years asking question after question — who am I, what am I here for, what do you see when you look at me — and piecing the answers together slowly. An image here. A Scripture there. A phrase that kept returning. It's less like a download and more like a conversation that deepens over months and years. Bring a journal. Write down what surfaces. Don't edit it too quickly. Let it accumulate.

03

Serve — and watch what happens.

I didn't find clarity sitting still. I found it moving. Helping someone work through a problem and watching the light come on in their eyes. Teaching and feeling something come alive in the room. The fruit confirmed the calling. When you're operating from who God made you to be, something happens — in you and in the people around you. It feels less like effort and more like homecoming. Pay attention to that feeling. It's data.

04

Process it with someone wise.

You weren't meant to figure this out alone. A good coach, a spiritual director, a trusted friend who knows you well and tells you the truth — these people can see things in you that you can't see in yourself. They reflect back patterns you've stopped noticing. They ask the questions that crack things open.

05

Use every tool available.

Including ones you might not expect. I'll be honest — it wasn't until this year, at 79, that a lot of it finally came together. Decades of notes, journal entries, prophetic words, assessment results, half-formed thoughts — processed through conversation with AI, patterns emerged that I hadn't been able to see on my own. That's not a replacement for God speaking. It's a tool for helping you hear what He's already been saying. Use what works. Assessments. Journals. Coaches. Community. AI. The goal isn't a particular method — it's clarity about who God says you are.

And give it time. But not more than you have to.

I'm 79 years old. It came together for me this year.

I'm not telling you that to discourage you. I'm telling you because it's true — and because it's exactly why this site exists.

You don't have to wait that long.

The journey is real. The path is walkable. And the one who knows who you are has been waiting far longer than you have to tell you.

"He's already standing up from the table."

"Your seat has always been there."
